The Newman is a regrind based on the Schrick pattern for sure.
I will soon be running one in my AGG and know a 268/270 degree will liven it up having had numerous MK2 GTI's with the same.
My Golf has a Schrick 304 degree cam and a stage 3 head - but mods like that a)cost lots b)aren't fuel efficient and c)aren't practical for general road use.
As Elvis says, past 270 and you get a lumpy idle, dodgy cold starts and an intractable torque curve low down. My 304 revs round past 9k but it's dead under 3k.
