The fuse mod is a necessity I'd say. Volkswagen shoved em both on same fuse which would have been OK (just) had it not been for the fact that over the years these electric motors exceeded pensionable age and began to develop high resistance. They can both do this but the blower is the worst culprit. Often the owners end up putting larger and larger rated fuses in to get around the problem, oblivious to the actual cause. My blower fuse is a whopping 75amp one at mo (ridiculous) just to start it but the motor is being replaced over the summer to cure this. I've actually started using the night heater for those cold mornings until I sort the blower but certainly if you have the older ceramic fuse box, splitting the two is a wise move to ensure you're not wiper-less in driving rain.
