I'd love to rolling road my 1Z, just to find out what its putting out...

I imagine that its well above the 90hp standard. It would be complete speculation if i were to guess, but i don't slow down at all on any motorway hills these days. 8)
Never go above 3500rpm either.

Must say i do spare a thought for my rod bolts when its really spinning, and have no idea
what my revs are.
Ignorance is bliss (also having a spare 1Z on the floor helps)
I now have a dash pod with rev counter to fit shortly, then i may have to drive more lovingly.
I've done about 25k on my s/h 1z engine with mtdi, with a regular return of 670klm/tank of diesel.

I would have saved thousands and could have had it all done in a couple of hours.

Everyday is a school day  and probably the same in mpg as a 1Z? Andrew was looking into this would be interesting to see how it drives.

Not just a bolt on job though, bracketry is wrong, lever set up is wrong, they are far from bolt on and work.
Plus they rev to about 2000rpm!
When we did Andrews with that pump it was bonkers fast, it was plain daft, but that had .216 nozzles also and the EGT were equally as daft.
We had to make some internal changes to get it to work something like.

Doing a mTDI is like doing a AAZ conversion, dead easy, Doing a eTDI mechanically is much the same, the wiring can be easy, if your gash, but it you want all the bits to work and for it to look something like they it takes hours.

Trouble is with them is that everyone starts with something different and uses a different engine and wants it to work with this charge cooler, that charge cooler etc, no two are the same.

Some pictures of one I just did are here.

http://brickwerks.wordpress.com/2012/01 ... onversion/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

But me being me wasn't happy with just blanking the void off behind the back light I had to go and get the panels laser cut... sad I know...

Image

But behind there is a Pipercross Venom, and it's plumbed into the factory snorkel so it's a damn site quieter that just a poxy cone filter wedged behind the back light.

basically, what I'm saying is that even the "same" engine conversion can be totally differently depending on what you have to work with.

I don't think there is a "best engine", the best engine is what suits the owner.

what did you think of the chargecooler used in the above conversion? I have a very similar one, looks to fit quite nice
I went for the apollo filter, pretty similar to the venom

Always interesting to see how other people solve the same probs.

Second PAS reservoir is for chargecooler ? More factory-looking than the TIG'ed alloy thing that came with my Pace unit, may pinch that idea ! Pump looks like a 90hp so the red-i just for show but why not ! Any pics of how you did the turbo/exhaust and engine mount ?

We have 4 or 5 of them out in the wild on various conversions, happy with them.
Only grip is that there isn't enough of a plain shank on the end for the hose to attach to, my AAZ runs 1.5bar of boost and was forever blowing boost pipes off, I ended up chopping the ends of and welding some stubs on.
Stock boost they are fine.
I like the Apollo, again, I've had one one mine for years, just the expense, I can't see the money in them, but obviously I pay a bit less that everyone else does.
I think the venom offers better value for money.
My engine also has a 1Y inlet manifold, just to complicate matters.
