hi all in process of finally sorting van out

wonder if the sliding window unit is easy to dismantle as i want to change the seals and tint the glass and paint the metal surround black?

I think you will be OK but may have some fun when replacing the window frame as it is always a struggle to get em back in when the seal is old and worn.

The only piece of advice I can offer is use sash cord rather than cheap string with the re-fitting of the window.

The rest is a piece of pi$$.

the seals are a piece of well p$ss tintingis the difficult part!! i did both mine, one side i bent the ally fram to get the sliding glass out, that was hard work adn it looks a bit of a mess! the other side i did in situ, run a bit of clear or black nail varnish round the edges and 5 years later still there and looking good!

The best way to break the windows down is to remove the lock (screw inside from below), watch out for the spring when you remove it, and then pull the top seal down at the open end to break the glue band, push it back in the grove and then open the window and pull the seal out of the rest of the frame, you can then pull it out as the front bit is already loose and will slip past the glass.
You will then find that the window is just an interference fit in the frame and a minimum of force will remove it.
You can then clean it all up and tint. Leave for a week before reassembling to let the tint properly adhere to the glass as per the instructions.
When you are ordering the seals and stuff from vw remember to order the two little black plastic gides from the bottom of the ali profile on the sliding window part, as the only way I have found to refit the unit is to remove them from the unit (which will probably knack them as they are designed to go in but not come out), fit the new top seal, pop the glass into that and again it will be a slight interference fit to pop it over and onto the rail, then fit the new guides and the lock and job's a good one.
Have recently done this on two windows.
The against glass seal is ridiculously expensive from vw, and looks to be the same as that used on some fire doors (which have an ali channel let into the wood to take the seal) so if you can find a door supplier or manufacturer that does them you could probably buy it by the metre instead of the silly strips that vw sell.
If you find a source perhaps you'd share it with everyone, I looked locally but couldn't find any so paid the price !!

i have quite a bit of the fur type seal prob enough for two sets of windows if any one else needs some pm me

the back three are to be tinted today so will see how they look
