1986 T25 1915 DG petrol watercooled.. ok had an intermitent noisy hydraulic tappet for ages but always started first time and ran very well.
Took the plunge and replaced offending tappet, used a telescopic push rod tube so did it in situ, and yes i did bleed the new tappet before fitting it. While manually turning the engine i trapped the distributor cap clip on the vane but thought it was ok. Now it only just attempts to start, sounding like the plug leads are on wrong (They are not). Took the dist cap off and notice metal fileings around the vane area. Cleaned as much out with a magnet as poss and it did run slightly better but not driveable. Have i fooked the vane/mag pick up do you think ??? any ideas please. from what i can hear in amongst the chugging and misfireing it sounds like the tappet is now silent !!
