Key won't turn in the ignition barrell

Post by colouredFunk »

Hello,

My key got stuck in the ignition last night and left my stuck in the middle of the road..... :(

After some WD40, some 'gentle' tapping with the hammer and some patience, I managed to free it up. Now I can get past the wheel lock but it doesn't go past the ignition, so I'm hot wiring it from there....which seems to work nicely (although I had to add some extra switches & cables to get the wipers and lights working properly)

What do you think is going wrong, the Barrel the switch or something else?

Cheers for you help!

Kaan

Same thing happened to me last week only the barrel collapsed and knackered the switch. Replaced them both (tenner for the barrel and keys, seven quid the nylon switch) and now working perfect. Easy enough job to do, just a bit daunting having to drill to release the old barrel. Any advice needed, gis a shout. Wobbly

Good to hear you've just done it!

What do you mean by Drilling into the release barrel? Could you tell me how to do this?

Cheers

If you buy a replacement barrel & keys, pay a bit more for the German
barrell. Don't buy the poor quality Brazilian one.
