Unbelievable! I got to the top section and looked down the steepest hill - i didn't even dare go down it!

However, some bloke told me i would get up there no problem - so after 3 attempts i did. There was a lot of high fiving when i got to the top!

My missus then got in the landy and drove up it first time - much to the amusment of everyone (well, i'd shown her how to do it hadn't i  ).

Later on in the day it became impossible due to the rutts at the top - had i had a front diff lock it may well have been possible. Non of the landy's or bobcats had front or rear difflocks - so non of them could do it.

Could a syncro ?

Im in Ely too. And there are plenty of lanes around here if you fancy it.

Quite a few sections now shut, as of the 1st October.

Well for one, driving the Three Shires Way between Grfham Water and Santa Pod we cam across quite a few TRO signs along those lines - looks like the locals have been out in wet weather once too often making helluva mess in some places rather than just driving straight through. Consequently upsetting a few farmers and so I hear, one in particular about half way along.

I think the signs say Oct 1st to April 30th inclusive (restricted), much as I saw in many places cycling the Ridgeway recently, from Streatley all the way to Hackpen Hill.

Be interesting to tie up with SyncroPete (Cambs), maybe ToomanyToys, ourselves (SW Herts) and maybe Sam and Jake on this, and compare notes.

Quite a few lanes we did last Christmas over to the Nort East of herts/North Wets Essex seem now to be downgraded too. Wrote a short article for the Syncronaut on these, I'll dig it out, Wet Roads - An alternative to Sunday Roast

Right - so no hard evidence about the Ely lanes then.

I was out two weeks ago and did most of the lanes around Ely.

Two of the lanes are shut - and have been since the beginning of summer. These were shut by locals. A farmer has put up a gate on one and there is a sign on the other - one of the locals is taking reg numbers of people that drive it. - I haven't bothered because they are two small lanes.

The locals are getting fed up - so we need to lane responsibly (like most of us do) and if we are going to cause damage - then don't bother.

I haven't seen any official signs - i did see one near Haddenham last week but it expired on the 31st of August.

So until i hear different - the lanes around Ely are open.

I will be out next week - and if i see signs i will let you know.

Of course, if i was a member of GLASS i could just ask my regional rep - but with all the clubs around i can't afford to join it!

Did near enough all the Ely lanes last night - and they are all open.

No mention of a TRO anywhere...

It would be a pleasure to show you around - in fact, we could sort a weekend out as there is a lovely run around thetford forest also.

Its a bit slippy out there at the moment - in fact too slippy on some of the lanes. Im not sure whats been happening but the rutts are massive - farmers probably as not much else but a tractor can make rutts like those.

Its probably worth waiting for drier winter weather for the Ely lanes - however, the Thetford lanes are in great nick.

If you want to suggest a date, i will show you around.

How about this:

Saturday - laning
Sunday - pay and play ?

Hi, I want to come although I will be syncroless (in garage awaiting gearbox). What time are you planning to get there? I'm about 10 mins (ish) away from Tixover. I shall stand watch and learn.
