
Overheating 1.6TD JX Engine

I had simular probs. To stop it seizing the Electric water pump spins when your turning the engine over on the starter. You have to put your hand on it (the pump) whilst someone starts the engine. You will feel it spin.
Preumably there is a thermal switch somewhere so the pump cuts in when the engine is switched off an its a tad too hot an needs cooling down. Check this out to.

have had problems with overheating.The engine is a M11 1.6td golf engine the temp gauge is 3/4 most times.The thermostat was replaced. But i noticed on the diagram item 12 coolant thermostat shows the position of it with the spring end towards the plastic hose connector that bolts on to the pump.Mine is fitted with the spring and outer disc seated in the pump housing.Can some one verify the correct way thanks.Ive done lots of checks on the coolent system reversed flushed the rad and looked for leaks elseware .The overheating occurs after a hill climb or fast run as to cause the red warning light flashing and temp gauge end stopped.The rad fan did not come on the last time so i suspect the sensor
