Gas Bottle adaptor

Post by Popeye- Doyle »

I have just taken a 11kg German gas bottle out of my Westy Joker and had the underslung tank reconnected.

I dont think they can be refilled in the UK. I have tried but no joy.

I found a place locally that does air/fluid hoses made to order and they had every fitting size known to man, they made me a new pipe up to fit onto the german fitting (as the flexi joins the solid) so now I can use both sorts just by switching the pipe. Don't know if your connection is the same though.

The tank is cylinderical in shape and if you have got one will be underneath your van on the drivers side (LH). This is used fro the cooking and the fridge also for a bbq if you have the right connectors. It is the same gas to run the engine LPG.

If you have the two low level cupboards to the left of the fridge, open the lid of the one closest to the fridge. There should be a shelf about 8-10 inches down. If you lift this up the gas bottle should be underneath it, under a large plastic lid, and clamped in place. Unless you have one of those built in tanks, which should be just under the fridge area on the outside of the van. It took me a few weeks to figure out where the gas bottle was and wondering why the shelf in the gas cupboard was so near to the lid! Doh. Just got to figure out whats under the shelf of the other low cupboard next to it............

Is it inside the cupboard or strapped underneath and outside the van?

sorry I didn't explain that bit very well

I have a german bottle with it's regulator and flexi-pipe and I have a uk bottle with it's regulator and flexi-pipe and both flexi-pipes have the fitting to connect to the german solid gas line, the german thread fittings are not the same size as the ones in caravan shops (at least not on mine).
I had the german flexi remade as it was of 1987 date, even though I have every years gas check certificates they never replaced it?.
I was worried that as the german regulators are 50mb and the uk ones are 37mb there might have been pressure issues but with the hot water boiler/blown air heating/fridge/2 gas rings all on there is no probs at all.

Main problem I have is the size of the bottles as the uk ones are fatter so i can't get two in my cabinet
