auto gearboxes

Hello everybody,
I've got a 2.1 DJ auto.
This is probably a silly question but has anybody ever swapped the 3 speed automatic with the four speed automatic found in later golfs,passats etc?
Does it fit straight in?
Is it worth doing (better ratios)?
Cost?

i dont think you can because the casing in the car box has the diff setup for the front wheel drive layout of the car

i would not mind a four speed box to help with motorway cruising
