Fluttering sound.....

Post by lhd »

I have a fluttering sound that comes from the dashboard when the throttle is pressed, been like it for months now.
It happens whilst moving and when parked.
Any ideas what it could be?
It sounds like it's coming from the heater area but not sure......

Oi Steve, don't bring up the elves again :D

Hmm, could be a leaf stuck in the blower unit (if mesh is missing behind rad). Otherwise don't rule out mice. Sounds daft but its not uncommon for these rodents to take refuge in vans. Could be a butterfly - they like thse kind of places too.

This may sound daft lhd, but when I was hearing similar noise emanating
from dashboard area when pressing accelerator, it turned out to be backbox on exhaust blowing.

Fluttering

Post by stevewright76 »

I have the same noise too - seems linked to acceleration/speed. THINK it's something in the fan, my old Bay made hell-on-earth-it's-going-to-die-any-minute noise for a while before blowing a (thankfully dead) wasp out the air blowers...

I know mine not's backfiring cos that sounds like a shotdun out the back, especially when I'm on petrol... Had some spot welds on back box which reduced but now much worse...

Will start a thread once I've got LPG going again (with help from Steve/Mocki and T'Onion's posts a while back) and can see if it calms down at all..

Mine does the same on light/ trailing throttle. I know that mine is the brake servo rattling. With more throttle (less vacuum) the noise stops.

Next time it does it, put your hand on the vac line to the servo, you'll feel it if it's the same as mine.

No idea how to fix it!

Mine is definitely rev related. It flutters real bad at high revs,ie motorway driving yet when I press the clutch it disappears......

If it changes with throttle on/off, I would look at the servo vacuum pipe, it may be vibrating/collapsing under vacuum I expect its the origional pipe it may just need replacing, bl**dy long pipe as well ! Also when you lift off , the vacuum changes, reminds me of the old vacuum wipers on old Ford Populars and Anglias. (That shows my age dont it)
