2.1 intermittently running on 2 cyl

Post by shankslop »

My van - 1985 2.1 - has recently developed a problem of losing the left hand bank intermittently therefore firing on two. If I turn it off and leave for 5 - 10 minutes it will start again and run fine.. until it stops again. Have changed cap, rotar arm and leads and everyting is sparking fine. Any obvious pointers of what to do/check next?

Fuel injection?
Is it ignition related or fuel related..
If its one side failing I would suspect a connection for the injectors in the loom somewhere or even a broken wire.. could even be the earth for those... (if seperate).. not too familier with the FI systems... but worth checking connections...

the fuel pump requires a constant voltage check the belt tension..(incorrect mixture)

If the ECU doesn't get 12V then it won't work properly and you will get mis-fires,
AGG 2.0L 8V. (Golf GTi MkIII)
