Slight problem turned out to be a bad earth connection on the blub holder of my N/S/F indicator at the weekend,,,,, But while I there I noticed the lamp itself was only half full of indicator fluid and I was wondering if I had to buy the genuine stuff from VW, or will the cheap stuff from Halfwits do ?

Fritz if you go to Hesfords which is only round the corner from you, they will sell you the correct fluid and the correct measured ammount to enable you to keep within the required level of lubrication.
i would be checking the copper pipes that run from back to front indicators.sounds like you have a leak.drive it onto a large piece of white paper and leave overnight.any leak will be self evident...

I seem to remember reading a year or so ago about new research to try to improve indicator fluid technology, but nothing seems to have come of it, a more recent report suggesting all the work had gone down the drain.
Yup, that seems to be all the rage, especially by members of the more trendy T25 forums....
Pretty sure I read that this is based on the ability to switch the fluid's molecules to left and right-handed versions, an analogy being Vitamin E whose right-handed molecule is inactive, whilst the identical alpha-tocopherol 'L' molecule is very potent anti-oxidant. Maybe they were investigating rust-inhibition of new indicator fluids and found a rare clear form by accident, that could be used be used for both sides - clever stuff
Somebody should go into halfords looking for indicator fluid and see what the response is. Utter confusion would quickly ensue as the floor staff bloke goes and gets the manager. Id pay to see it!
