With a 4 speed box you just fill it until it runs out of the filler hole-about 3.5 litres--make sure van is level obviously--a tip for filling gearbox is--1 metre of plastic tube--thread thru wheel arch & into filler hole--connect gear oil squeezy bottle to tube & fill--easy--
Billy...Defected to white box but still lurking.
There was once a Tech Bulletin on Syncros I believe (not the subject I know) saying just 'below' the filler hole (1"), and it has been suggested that driveshaft seal weeping (fairly common) are aggravated by an overly high oil level.
Maybe this applies to all 5 speed boxes, its a fact that you can't get all the old oil out, unless the box is split, over half a litre remaining I think... which is probably wheer Simon's figure comes from.
