tdi engine turbo oil return pipe
has any one used the standard oil return from the turbo to the engine block on a tdi engine conversion using 1z code engine at 50 degrees (standard angle) or will i have to make a new one up to the 1.6 td sump and bung the hole up in the block? just asking as it seems to look though it will drain ok but i have read that it needs to be moved so as not to flood the turbo bearing housing with oil

not sure about the tdi 1Z but i think the exhuast manifold is the same set up as the AAZ. The in and out ports on the turbo need to be as vertical as possible and the return feed needs to be as free flowing as possible. On the AAZ conversion if you are using the jx exhaust manifold go to the sump as this gives nice arc and so does not restrict flow. so if at 50deg tilt with the 1Z exhaust manifold the return to the block starts going uphill from the turbo or is tight bend best stick that to the sump too besides I think simon baxter has pipes and plug for block ready to go on his shelves.

Sound about right. and of course don't assume/presume the vehicle is always exactly upright or not subject to cornering forces, so a good fall on that line is important.
