Winter lay-up

Post by TR »

I want to put my Caravelle to bed for the winter. It will have to stand outside as I have no garage or carport.
Should I use a vehicle cover (if so then which?), or is it best to just clean, wax and leave exposed to the elements (Surrey).
Any other recommendations?

They do like to be used, mine run best when they are being driven lots. just give it a good hosing/jet wash underneath to get the salt off.

Did get some stuff from a firm making breathable but watherproof covers for busses at the RAF Waddinton show - will see if I can dig it out. Seem to remember a price of just over £150/

When we bought ours, it came with a cover. It fitted badly (seems to have been made for a small motorhome) and was a pain in the ass to keep putting on and taking off. Probably caused more scratches to the paintwork and damage than a bit of rain does.

So, I stopped using it....

Now when I want to use the van, I can get in and drive instead of having to undo loads of straps and then find somewhere to put this huge green canvas thing! :)

Covers are for caravans, IMHO. ;)

Yeah, covers make the vehicle sweat and rust faster. Treat it to a really good wax before the winter and as they say above - do run it if you don't intend taxing it over the winter.
