2ltr DK gearbox question

Post by camper »

I have a 1.6td 1990 transporter with a ABH gearbox.I wish to replace the gearbox with a 2ltr DK from a 2ltr Aircooled T25.I noticed the gear change to rod lenght is diffrent on my van to fit the 2ltr box.If i fit the diesel bell housing and input shaft and replace the gear change rods from a 2ltr Aircooled to my van. Will the gear change rods match up to the gearbox.

best if you can get the whole linkage cos it shorter but can be made longer with a bit of jiggerypokery,i think from my own experiance that the side change is in the nose cone not on the side of the case like newer models.hope this helps.
and the bushing under the van is in a different place for the Aircooled rod :D

Installed 2ltr DK gearbox on to 1.6TD .My own question i can answer .You need the complete linkage gear stick to gearbox. And the later ABH gearbox plate mount that bolts on the gearbox will not fit the DK 2ltr gearbox.A modification is required for the DK plate mounting to give it extra length for the flexible rear mount and chassis bolt hole plate to screw up .The bolt holes in the chassis are there as like the earlier T25 to take the DK gearbox and the later threaded bolt holes as well to take the ABH later gear box.I have not measured up to make this modification will advice as soon as i can get the van back on the road.

update 2ltr dk gearbox fitting to diesel

Post by camper »

Engine mount from the abh gearbox for the 1.6 td can be redrilled to fit on the 2ltr dk .I added 45mm to the 2ltr dk gearbox mounting to the bolt hole for the flexible mounting to bolt up to gearbox chassis .Replace the gear change rods for the earlier 1.6 /2ltr Aircooled T25 but add 45mm of extra length to the rod that goes to the gearbox.Keep the existing gear change mounting but remove the aluminium stop plate inside this is unbolted.Reset to get best gear change.Did this over the week end drives a treat with the 2ltr gearbox.Oh chassis bush is okay for the earlier gear rod .
