Thumping noise under my feet?
My old van has just come back from a long trip around Wales. It's still going great but coming back I noticed an occasional thumping noise under my feet. A bit like the sound you hear when you are driving along the motorway and you run over the cat's eyes for a few hundred yards....
Duh, duh, duh, duh, duh, duh. What could it be? My wheel bearings? Something loose underneath? The drive shaft?
Another thing, while I'm here, after a long trip I often find the back of the van is covered in oil. What causes this spraying?

Thumping noise under my feet?
SYNCROSPARES UK...Could this be my prop?. I sometimes get a thumping . It seams to be directly under the floor by my feet. I have had it only a few times, and only when I am turning the steering at low speed IE. parking Etc. Been under, cant find anything
Health has now stopped me camping Etc.

On my 1.6D it's the sump pressurising at highish revs. Make sure the breather pipe isn't collapsed/blocked. Slow down a bit.

I might be heading down Cullompton way soon. Can I just pull in to Synchros for a checkup or do I need to make an appointment? How much do you charge for a full service?
The thumping sound has now turned into a juddering sound when I brake! I'm getting worried. Any more ideas?
Also starting to get squeaking noises in the back of the van when I'm driving. (Before someone gets in....no, I haven't got mice)

This evening I drove a mile or so and the juddering has got worse and now I also have a whistling sound coming from the rear!! Maybe my van is haunted!
It's definately getting worse. Panic stations. Would like to bring it all the way down to Airfix in Carshalton as everybody seems to recomend him. Other alternative is around the corner to my local mechanic who is good but does he know anything about VW vans? It might not make it all the way down to Carsholton from North London.
Had a look underneath but nothing seems to be hanging off. Lots of oil all over the rear axle though.

I took the old girl round to my mate who can't read or write but is a damn good mechanic. He said the juddering was the brake pads rubbing against each other, I think thats what he said. He took the wheel off to check the bearings but couldn't undo the centre peice in the middle of the wheel to get at it. There was play on the wheel. When he put it back together again the sreeching, whistling, squeaking had stopped and the juddering was not as bad. Amazing what a few bags with a hammer can do!
Is he right? The juddering when I brake is caused by loose pads? Is it a big job to fix them? I've got to take it round to another bloke who has the right size wrench or whatever to unscrew the centre bit.
