New engine

Having a new vw factory2.1 fitted after failure of my previous recon rubbish of 2kmiles. The garage tell that on my previous 2.1 there were no protective plates fitted (the ones that cover the push rods). Anybody not have these? are they neccessary? Got to decide whether to buy and fit or not.

The pushrod tubes are beer can thin so a stray stone might puncture them and your engine will bleed to death....
