missing vacuum hose??

Post by ermie571 »

hello folks,

could peeps pleeeeze have a ganders at the piccies below and tell me if I have a vacuum hose missing....and if I do, where should it go?? I have a noise, fairly high pitched, that increased in frequency with the engine revs. Very prominent at idle when the engine is warm. It is also idling noticably quicker when warm (racing??) Read somewhere on here that too much air can cause this, so had a look inside engine bay to see if anything obvious. Looks like a hose is missing, but cannot see where it should go?
this is where it looks like something is missing....

maybe the piccies will work this time...

Hope you can help

Emma

and this is it in the back of the engine bay:

Engine probs

Post by Fritz »

Emma, try again to get you photos up on the page and don't forget to tell us what engine you are running (Aircooled/Watercooled) as the vacuum system is quite different on both models....

Vacc pipes etc

Post by Fritz »

Emma,,,,,,Top small photo (on your 2nd posting) shows the pre-heat valve on air intake which is supposed to aid start up when cold, this should have a vacuum pipe connected to it.

2nd and 3rd photos or the largest one of all shows the air intake complete,,, the small pipe leading off to the left of the central large box should also have another pipe connected to it (on the box) But this may be missing due to corrosion etc. (it is a type of valve)

I guess the high pitched whistle is infact air being drawn into the busted side of the airbox valve .Personally I'd be bunging the hole up with something till you can sort one out.
