Misfire & Cure

Post by blurb55 »

Coming back from Dorset van developed a misfire, so bad we had to Green Flag home.

Now at the same time I noticed a fanbelt was slipping and screeching away. It is the one that powers the alternator and the aircon (2.1 petrol Westy 1987 US import). GF chap said fuel system problem.

Not enough nous to argue, so accept wisdom of senior expert on site.

Just tightened the fanbelt and the misfire has gone. at the risk of being ridiculed to death - is this cause and effect or just coincidence?

Misfire

Cheers Kev, as I said not my strong area but I had thought likewise. Tightened everything up and went for a blast along the Hope Valley pulled like a train.

Also stripped and lubed the squeaky brake - problem gone.

Good result :D but missed Run to the Hills

Oh well Vanfest is a must.

Ta for suggestion, Mr Baxter seems to have come up trumps with your prob.

MMMM
I think you should check all connections on the ignition, ie unplug and plug in again..
Very unlikely that the fan belt would be the cause and cure.. prob more like damp/poor connection.. was it/had it been raining when the problem happened?

As Diamond Hell says the fuel pump requires a constant voltage so your initial suspicions are valid...toomanytoys has a point, in that, check out the entire ignition circuit for connectivity
