Thermostat pipe removal

Post by Stevie H »

Whilst flushing my coolant system I noticed a leak in the 'T' piece coming off the bottom of the water pump. Will it require heat to remove this pipe, could it be safely brazed or should I just renew it? It's the one that's £48.75 from JK Catalogue. Part J10912

Thanks in advance.

Stevie H,
If you want my tuppence worth, get a new pipe. They are prone to rust, and if your old one is repairable, and you fix it, keep it as a spare.

My pipe sprang a leak when I ran a hand over it to check how bad the rust was, having just driven the camper home from South West France the day after I bought it

replace it it's a very poor design always rust out and not very thick metal to start with - should have been two nylon castings and six clips and two more hoses really but the brazed pipe is cheaper and easier to assemble hence that's what they used - thankfully they have come down in price, one of the very few bits that have.

What a nightmare!! Got one bolt out but the other one 'rounded'!! :( Two and a half hours later and a lot of swearing I got the other one out. Now, where's the best place for a replacement pipe? I'll need it fast because I'm driving the bus to Vw Action.
