Whats me relay relaying ?

I 've got a 1.9 water cooled petrol dg engine ,A reg there is a relay in the black box full of wires on the n/s in the engine bay -do any of you electriky boys know what it controls

If you mean the black box of wires thats screwed to the front left of the engine bay (looking back to front) then I believe the relay in question is connected to the inlet air manifold heater. It's located under the resonating chamber on the inlet manifold and is switched on the temperature of the coolant.

Many thanks -that shouldnt stop the bus idling then -must be something else

If the heater's partially shorted then the extra drag on the alternator might lower the idle speed of the bus. Pretty simple to check. Just pull the relay and if the bus idles better then you've found the culprit.....

Just pull the relay and if the bus idles better then you've found the culprit.....
