another swivel seat question

are genuine swivel seats handed, i know after market swivels can be used wither side, but what of the genuine article
could an offside swive be used on the nearside

I have original swivels on both my seats and they look the same. also they will go through a full 360 so can see no problem, but i could be wrong.
Member 2476 - No VW currently, moved up to a Hymer B534 A-Class Motorhome...
