IS it changing alright, and selecting. If it really is THAT noisy now, and I can't judge sat here, then nothing much will happend for 000's of miles I expect... but if it starts jamming between 1st & reverse (2 gears at once) or 3/4 selection becomes weird, that's when to stop asap.

Just a noise in top gear, wouldn't worry me more than my front-diff does at the mo... I think 8)

Nope, got worse... 3rd is more than occasionally clicking as it goes in have to be real carefull and double declutch, 1st, 2nd, 4th ok.. have to get to work tomorrow, hired a car from tomorrow eve (wasnt available tonight), the hire place said if they were going to their other place near Dunkirk with their truck, they would drop the doka off there for me, only 20km and the boat to worry about then..
Noise starts off low and biulds with speed, pinion bearing I reckon..

Any more news on your Syncro trans? I'm just about to put mine on the road with a new VC so I'm paranoid about other transmission problems.....

Don't be paranoid, tens of thousands of Syncros were made and i expect half of them are still driving around just fine... exactly what is it after fitting a new VC you are paranoid about? Maybe we can help put your mind at least.

swapped out simon's box on monday, it'll be stripped later, but sounded like pinion bearing and asssociated, excessive wear and failing, but hopefully not too broke it can't be fixed.
