Misfire on cold start

Post by Lillythefrenchie2026 »

I’ve noticed the past few times I’ve started the van after sitting for a while it’s occasionally misfiring on cold start. Once the engine has been running for a few minutes it’s running normally and after driving a while, then turning the engine off and back on it still runs fine.

It’s a 1.9 petrol DG waterboxer, this is my first van so unsure where to start looking.

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks

It's not unusual for a van that sits for a while between uses for it to run a bit lumpy for a few seconds from cold. It may take a minute or two to smooth out. That's usually just the hydraulic tappets pressurising up so the valves start opening as they should. A little heat in the cylinders helps, as does the heat in the inlet manifold. This makes the fuel atomise/evaporate for a better burn. Vans used daily tend not to behave this way, but run smoothly almost immediately, as you'd expect.
Anyway, nothing to worry about.
