LPG Sytem/Unit Service

Hi,

I have a Westfalia Joker 1983 1.6 diesel with it has an underslung LPG tank.

Does anyone know where the LPG system can be serviced?

I am just north of London near Watford but willing to travel if needed.

Any medium to large caravan or motorhome dealer should be able to service your gas system through a habitation check

Not much to go wrong with them.
Check for leaks, clean combustion chamber in fridge and jet.

The Westies are well thought out machines. Mine is a dream. That said i have much rebuilt it all.

Thanks maxstu. I took it to a motorhome dealer for a service and safety check a few years ago but they were very unhelpful and dismissive and in the end they wouldn't touch it. It seems that the underslung tank is part of the problem but I haven't yet got to the bottom of why it is such an issue. It seems remarkable to me that these systems legally require safety checks every 2 years in Germany but in the UK it is a headache to find someone to service it.

Thanks mioba. There isn't a problem per se, just that we wanted to get it serviced a few years ago and haven't used it since as we haven't been able to find anyone to service it. Would just like to get it serviced from a safety point of view.

Thanks Rob. I certainly felt that was the approach of the campervan dealer I took it to a few years ago. It seems to be a bit of a headache finding people who will service these systems and it is possibly not helped with the overall reduced availability of LPG in the UK (there has apparently been a reduction of about 50% in fuel stations offering LPG in the last 15-20 years). I am also starting to wonder if it may be simpler to have the underslung tank removed and replaced with a standard gas bottle/cylinder system.

There are plenty of lpg stations about.

the LPG lasts a very long time.

Some people do replace the underslung with cylinders. But if you run the fridge off gas then it will still need a service.

You may then went to remove the fridge altogether and get a compressor fridge. The absorption fridges are mint. Had mine out last week. Done the pc fan mod and fitted an internal pc fan. But then if you use fridge gas - you will need solar.

Assuming you also have a 3 way fridge.
Tbh not much to go wrong with the lpg system.
Like anythig if it aint broke......

If its all metal lines. Then no rubber hoses to be replacing.
