what is the small coil thing behind headlight one side of vw  t25 please

It's the radiator fan resistor.

Thanks it does look like a resistor from an old valve radio. What does it do to  the radiator I assume fan.

I have googled this and I can see it a speed control for the heater fan speed control. So I understand thanks .
