VW Tailgate Fitting

Hi all,
I’m after a bit of advice on getting the rear VW tailgate badge to stay on my 1985 T25 Auto-Sleeper Trident.
The rubber backing seems to be pushing the badge pins out of the retaining clips. The badge and clips are new as below. If I use tape, it will have to be between the tailgate and rubber, then also between the rubber and VW badge. This will make it sit too proud of the recess.

Any tips would be appreciated!

you are missing the clamping washer 171 853 939 for the middle pin

weirdly Just Kampers don't list that part for T25
