Hi All. Im new to VW bus ownership. But a veteran of other classics.
I have just bought a 1982 T25 D its in pretty solid shape considering the year.
I just have some questions and thought where better to ask than here!
Its currently a non runner. and looking at the engine hatch it has been modified to be able to fit the injector pump in. the sump looks fabricated and there is no dipstick!!!
Leading me to believe this isnt the original engine.
Could anyone tell me what engine this is? and where to find or fit a dipstick? and also how to post a picture?
many thanks.
Paul

Im not a diesel person. But my guess is,its a 1Y out of a golf or a AAZ if it has a turbo. Someone with more diesel engine knowledge will know.

It is a 1.9 IDI for sure.
From the injection pump the 1Y is the most probably answer, but it can be anything 1.9

Re: What Engine is this?
Thank you gents. This is very helpful. I’m guessing during the swap the dipstick has been made redundant due to the new angle of the engine. I wonder if there is a way or place to fit a new dipstick?

Re: What Engine is this?
Its a well known problem iirc. Doable and documented but you need the JX tube and stick and a reference dimension.
