No reverse in my 5 speed westy

Hello, I seem to have lost reverse in my 83 westy 5 speed. When i try to put in in reverse and let the clutch go i here a soft wurring sound but no gears grinding. I have already swapped out all gear linkages, and repaired my gear lever. The tab that assist reverse in the box below the gear shift is fine as well. Any suggestions or does my gear box need repair?

can you get 1st ?

have someone underneath look at the linkage at the gearbox when you go through the gears

maybe the cup and ball are not fully mated or the boot skirt has ridden up and jammed at the top of the cup and is blocking full shift

or the ball splines are worn and not getting enough throw

whatever it is more likely to be the linkage if 1st gear selects okay

I can get into first no problem, I'll double check but I literally just swapped every part of the linkage and 1st through 5th gear feel amazing. The reverse has been a problem that was getting worse and worse as time when on I had to slam it in reverse for it to engage but now nothing.

in that case it maybe the dog teeth on the gear and the synchroniser have worn so much that the synchro is not engaging with the gear sufficiently and or there is so much play in the pinion bearing that the pinion shaft is moving backwards in reverse away from the synchroniser

have you dropped the oil and looked at the drain plug magnet ? usually a good indicator wear

internally there could be a number of reasons for non engagement

did you fit the GoWesty boots at the back and fill them with grease ? I ask only cos I know someone else recently did and the reason his box was popping out of gear was the new green boots and too much lube meant they were acting as pistons

Installed the Brickwerks kit but I will double check my work. And update when I can
