Engine Clean/Degrease

Post by Lillythefrenchie2026 »

So the moment I’ve been putting off but is unavoidable, I think the engine bay in my 86 has never seen a brush since new and needs some TLC, I’m going to give it a dam good degrease and clean and rinse with a light spray from hosepipe.

Obvious areas to avoid and protect with plastic wrap I would think are:

* Distributor cap (cover completely)
* Alternator (avoid direct spray)
* Air intake housing (keep water out)
* Electrical box
* An exposed/aged connector area
* Loose wiring/connectors that deserve extra caution

Do you think that has covered most, suggestions?

Also going to treat the surface rust with Hammerite Kurust then overspray some white primer afterwards.

Do you want it to start again? Looks more like bodyshop dust than anything else. I'd get an airline and/or vacuum & brush to it rather than get it wet and risk turning it into paint dust sludge.
