Water pump and alt conversion to single belt

Post by shampooefficient »

I'm looking at this engine and realising it has some subtle differences to the original. And some not so subtle. Next up is the alternator wiring.

Is there anything stopping me swapping a single water pump pulley, alternator from the same engine, and bottom pulley? It's a 1.9/1.6D mishmash right now and if I can simplify instead of buggering about with the shims...

I have the original alt, WP pulley and bottom pulley from the old 1.6D so it would all match each other.

My 1.6d had a single belt when i bought it, but i switched back to double belts. The single belt made less contact with the water pump so it squeaked all the time.

Duly noted! Thank you.

I would go with a 1.9D setup with the 90A alternator and its bracket.

Not forgetting the one way clutch pully on the alternator to reduce noise and vibrations.
