Exhaust Heat Shield

Morning all.

I need to make a heat shield for the exhaust on my 1983 Vanagon as I need to protect the engine from the heat.
This is a Tdi conversation. This wagon spend most of it's early years in the US and Germany, so had an engine cover fitted for noise ect. After various works by various mechanics throughout the years, and being manhandled ect I've had to remove the cover (tin) which now leaves the engine exposed (namely the cam and aux belts/wheels/Dolly's ect)

My idea is to perhaps fit some kind of spacer bracket to slightly move the exhaust box out further towards the rear of the van to make more room between the engine and exhaust to the maybe make a shield to sit between exhaust and engine, fixed to said brackets and ridge inside of van under the number plate flap.

Anybody got any ideas on how I can achieve this ?
Has anybody actually done this?

Any advice and guidance would be appreciated.

Diesels had full tinware to try and keep the noise contained afaik, so a set of JX tin with minimal mods should do the job?

BW do the diesel one. It hangs down at the back and the under shield attaches to it.
