music system

Post by Freddievan »

I haven't bought a car stereo for 15 years and I'm aware that they're probably quite different to what they were back then.  Any advice/suggestions/do's and don'ts. Also, is it possible to fit a stereo so that it switches off with the ignition?

The main difference nowadays the fancy ones have displays and if the units itself are smaller depth if you don't want a high end one.
Otherwise they are the same as the old ones.

The ISO connector is standard nowadays, and most of the jnits are digital press switch on so you need battery+ for the memory and some switched + for the run

"Retro" style is a thing nowadays so you can find 80-90s looking ones even cheap from china

Great, thanks.  I'd definitely like something retro - but not gimmicky.  Found a handsome looking Blaupunkt, which reminds me of the 1980's.

You should easily be able to get a radio with 'ignition logic' to work.

You should at a minimum have -

Battery Live - Red Wire.
Ground - Brown Wire.
Illumination - Grey-Blue.

An ignition live wire could be easily attached to the relevant pin in the 'G' section of the fuse box.
This should be a black wire to follow stand DIN / ISO protocols.

Ignition Live - G2 or G5

X Contact Live - G1, G3 or G10

Maybe one day I might get it finished
