1988 T25 diver door wont lock

Post by Pauld »

Hi all. I bought my first camper last summer. A 1988 T25. I went to start getting some stuff ready on it Today for the summer as I'm yet to use it and the door key wont turn on the drivers side anymore ( It was when i bought it ). I got in through passengers and opened it but now the push pull button omn the inside is stuck in the up position also so I can't lock the door . I've looked on google all day and can't find anything on it .
Any help greatly appreciated.

maybe the lock barrel has corroded into the housing, dissimilar metals.  I've had to do Vinnie a few times over the years, and again only today!
Open the door, at the level of the handle there's a cut-out in the edge of the seal channel, pull the seal away and you'll see a cross-head screw.  Undo this and the whole door handle comes off if you slide it towards the front of the van then pull the rear out.  Hopefully you don't need to disassemble the lock barrel - soak the inner workings in penetrating oil then try the key , and with luck after lots of soaking & wiggling it'll free up.   If this doesn't work after 30 mins, then minor surgery may be required to strip the barrel out of the handle.

So an Update for anyone Who has a similar problem. I got it working  :D
The key mechanism on the handle needed some wd40 .
.Open the window with the door closed and try to push the push pull knob down and if it works all you gotta do is what TandemSandy said .
.Open the door and The screw to take out is on the inside edge of the door under the rubber door seal next to the two screws for the main mechanism. After undoing that Bang the handle forwards towards the front of the vehicle with your palm and you'll be able to take it of .
.spray the inner barrel with wd40 or clean and grease and then rotate it back and forward until it loosens and the key turns it again.
.Reasemble .

Glad you got it sorted...
I would recommend plusgas rather than WD40.

I completely stripped and rebuilt my locks on my van.
But yes, the centre core of the lock barrel corrodes and the lock wafers stick in their guides.

From memory the locks are assembled with grease in the factory, but with wear, alloy powder builds up and congeals in the grease.

When I rebuilt my locks, I used graphite powder, which does not attract dirt and thus does not congeal.
