Replaced ignition coil - still stalls

Post by SammySnake »

Hello everyone,

New member - first post!

My dad gave me his T25 as a project but I have no mechanical knowledge - got an Haynes manuel and Google!

The van was running fine but I noticed it starting to struggle/judder when idling. This went on for a little while but now the van cuts out as soon as you take your foot off the ignition.

Having done some googling, I replaced the ignition coil hoping it would solve the issue however the problem remains. Any ideas/jumping off points are most welcome! My dad has said to check the vacuum - so I'll be reading up on that this weekend.

I have a video of it but can't seem to upload it. If anyone knows how to upload it then please let me know.

Cheers,
Sam

Sam
we need some more information to help
Which engine, which year
What serving work have you done if any ? How old is the fuel in the tank, have you changed the fuel filter ? How long stood before you took it on etc..
Basics for petrol engine, air, fuel, spark - so clean air filter, good fuel, decent spark are the basic requirements along with correct timing and idle set up
Did you check the spark before replacing the coil - what led you to changing that and did you measure the ersistances of the old one and the replacement ?
Have you measured the resistance of the spark leads, seen the plugs, checked for spark at the plugs ?
What tools do you access to ? Do you have a timing gun for example
How well does it start ? Do you know the starting procedure for your engine ?

When my van started to have a bad idle and then cut out at junctions it was the inlet manifold. By spraying carb cleaner around this area while someone sat in it to keep it ticking over the revs picked up indicating a leak.
As mentioned it’s easy to check the coil/ ht leads with a multi meter. There’s a good guide on Brickwerks.
