Hi all
Does the gearbox oil suggestion in wiki still stand? And what is the suggested frequency of change?
I’m asking as mine has never been changed since I’ve owned it (7 years) but I only do approx 3000 miles a year and it was in body shop for 3 of those!
Many thanks

VW never had an oil change interval so it must be good for a very high mileage.

They are "lifetime fill" by VW, which means no need to change in the designed lifetime of the vehicle. Which was around 10-15 yrs and 200k kms. Passed a long time ago...
From the "common wisdom of the internet" the best you can do to your gearbox is to change the oil relative frequently, like in every 5-10 yrs depending the usage and the engine. It is cheap insurance.
In my experience the Castrol 75w-90 Gl4+ (nowadays called Transmax Manual Transaxle locally) oil works the best with the shifting feel.

I changed the oil on my 5 speed diesel when I got it . I don’t think it had ever been changed. What an amazing difference after I changed it . I would never have believed just an oil change would make such difference. Definitely worth doing 100 %

I changed mine after experiencing the odd problem changing up after a long motorway run. It was nice and smooth afterwards. It gives you a chance to inspect the magnetic drain plug too.
