Fuel tank headaches

Hi all I'm new to this forum so be gentle please.

I currently have a 1986 T25 1.9 watercooled. I have been replacing the fuel tank but I am having problems refitting it as everytime I try to raise it into place the overflow pipe to the filler neck cones back out of its grommet on top of the tank. Does anyone have any suggestions or tips to stop this from happening as it's becoming a pain in the ***.

Leave it out, you can fit them through the wheel arches once the tank is up in position.
