Aftermarket heat exchangers

Post by banjax34 »

Looking to replace my rusted out heat exchangers, looking at the aftermarket ones , the tinware doesn't seem to be completely sealed around the exhaust header pipes. Is this normal, I imagine there's heat loss bit not sure of enough to be an issue . Has anyone sealed them by welding or otherwise ?

Hello,
2 litre CU heat exchangers....

Here is a video that may be useful from 5:45 on

The gaps in the tinware will give you 'wiggle room' to get everything aligned.
You can then crimp and exhaust mastic seal as required.
Make sure you have all new gaskets, nuts bolts and probably exhaust studs.

Thanks for the video link 👍🏻 Would you recommend sealing the gaps or will it perform just as well without ? When you say wiggle room are you talking about when you have to re-attach the tinware to the heat exchanger outer skin ? If I welded the outer skin gaps to the inner exhaust pipes would that be a problem ?
