1984 5 speed LHD gearstick
Hi all I need a new gearstick for our 1984 westy. It’s a 5 speed left hand drive. Now I have found one on brickwerks and I know he is on here and I biy a lot form him. But it’s £209 which is kind of well out of my budget really. But there’s one on just kampers for £129 which I can do. Now the question is how good is the just kampers one? Has anyone bought one in the past? And can I just fit all my parts from my old gearstick o to it? Thanks all hopefully I can get the old girl back on the road. Unfortunately this is the big year that if it’s not running by December we’re going to have to sell her. And I really really really don’t want to do that

If yours is snapped, it can be welded together , they sometimes break where the grub screw is located.

JK don't seem to have the left hand drive version, certainly I couldn't find it, but Schofields do, German made, on discount LINK to Schofields
Brickwerks version is solid and made in UK so won't snap or bend
As discussed your old one can fairly easily be repaired and refurbished but a new plug and play one might be easier if you don't have the skills

Or upgrade the whole thing to an 025Motorsport shifter that actually works and improves the driving experience

If the old one has snapped then it's quite likely the linkages could do with some love as well, it shouldn't take a great amount of force to select gears.

Thanks all yup snapped clean in half. I know what the problem was I hope anyway. A few years ago I did all the linkages ect but when I put the stick back on I didn’t put it in neutral at all. After looking at the guides I can see big gouge marks on the inside of the shifter box and metal guides. As all your advice I have had it welded by somone at work. Now I went to put it back in but I need to file the weld down a little as it just doesn't quite fit. It’s just the excesses weld. But if I can find out how can I send a picture for you all to look at? I can’t tell if the gearstick is bent out of shape. I’ll get a picture today and try upload it. I have already put in new metal guides so fingers crossed if I put it all back together and actually fit it into neutral we should be golden.
