Speedo not working

Post by therealchrisgray »

Hi all, I need a bit of troubleshooting and advice.

I just replaced the speedo cable, but the needle still isn't moving. Does this mean the speedo itself is broken, or is there some trick to attaching the cable to the back of it that the Haynes people haven't bothered to tell me about?

When I bought the van the wheel had no proper grease caps, and the cable was was always bodged in place. Non standard wheels, the official grease caps didn't quite fit inside. A bit of grinding has fixed that, but I left the old cable in place as it was functioning fine.

After 20k km the speedo stopped working! I assumed the problem was the cable/bodge, so pulled it all out and now I have a brand new cable fitted to proper grease cap. But the needle doesn't move!

Any suggestions gratefully received! 😟

Is the cable turning when you drive? Pull the cable from the clocks and drive round the block looking at the cable end (or jack it up and get someone to spin the wheel).

Also...check it's properly engaged on the back of the clocks.
