To line Westfalia pop top roof or not..

Post by Cjg »

Hello.

We have an early 1982 RHD Aircooled t25 Westfalia pop top van.

The pop top canvas needs replacing and while it’s at the workshop up in Gateshead (Proud to Pop) we were thinking to line the interior fibreglass top with some sort of carpet.

My only concern is that when we bought the van there was quite a bit of mildew directly on the internal fiberglass roof. It cleaned off well but I’m concerned that during the winter months the mildew may return and get into the lining and impossible to clean.

Has anyone had experience with this and any advice?

Thanks in advance.

I don't have experience with mildew but I did line the roof of my tintop with 4-way stretch carpet, which made a huge difference in sound, insulation, condensation and general comfort. Also the van is always outside and has had no issues with becoming moldy or smelly or anything. So would definately recommend.
1986 tintop called Rutger. 1.6d (CS), 4 spd (ABF). Self-converted to camper in the Netherlands.
