Instrument cluster plastic screen removal.

Post by keynsham1 »

Does anyone know a way to remove the transparent screens from the instrument cluster? I think they are glued in. I want to fit a GPS speedo from the front.

they are ultrasonicly welded, so it is not easy to remove them and the remaining plastic will be ugly.

I did replace my broken ones. It was a PITA

Sometimes they fall out. But if they haven't fallen out, you're very unlikely to be able to remove one without destroying it and leaving a mess. As above, they're permanently bonded in using heat. The plastic (both the screen and surrounds) is getting more and more brittle with age anyway - often the screens will crack on their own.

To have any chance of removing it a screen intact, you'll have to sacrifice the rest of the cluster
