Hot restart problems

Post by nburge »

A persistent problem, probably carb/autochoke related: I run a T.25 1.9DG built in '86 with a Pierburg carb. Having stopped for a motorway break of 20 minutes or so, my van restarts only to stall almost as soon as my foot comes off the accelerator. Repeated attempts to restart end in failure until the engine has cooled for at least half an hour. Sometimes it fails to start even after cooling down. On two occasions Roadside assistance have come and sprayed some Easy Start into the air intake which sorts the problem immediately. Not a happy or sustainable solution of course. (is it true that stuff can damage the engine?) Once it's going again, the van runs perfectly.

Most likely a fuel supply problem usually a weak fuel pump or worn down pump push rod.
