Serpentine belt conversion DG engine

Post by audiquattro »

Does anyone know of a serpentine belt conversion for the DG engine? I know T2 & Beetles have kits but I’ve never seen one for the 1.9. I have a 90 amp alternator which must put a load on the V belt & unless the belt is tensioned perfectly it does that little cherp after starting. I have made my own belt adjustment modification which makes it easy to adjust but the whole design is poor with only a small part of the crankshaft pulley touching the belt.
Any information would appreciated.

Could be that with the belt slipping a little, over time the pulley surfaces have been polished.  Try roughing them up with some sandpaper or emery cloth so the belt grips better. Had similar problem and this worked.
