Gearbox codes

Post by radiantsnout »

Hi to all two questions, where abouts on a gearbox will I find the code. The other is is there a site or download some where that tells me what code a box should be for a 1984 1.6d.
Many thanks

Try this here Gearbox Codes

My old van which came from factory with a CS engine in about 1983 had code DY if that helps

Also if you look under the steering column to one side there should be a white paper sticker with serial number and a load of other info like engine/transmission codes and other options on your van. That would tell you what the original gearbox would be.  Things may have changed in the years to your van though.  My current van came with a file of history including a report from Aidan many years ago mentioning the internals do not match the casing and the casing does not match what is on the white sticker either.

Try this. But as Pirate Pete mentions. What inside the casing may not match the stamped code.
