Replace analogue clock with tachometer
Is it possible to simply replace the analogue clock in the dash with an original VG T25 tachometer? Physically obviously yes but does the wiring loom include the necessary wires for the tachometer such that I can simply connect it up to the instrument binnacle foil?

Re: Replace analogue clock with tachometer
you know that the rev counter is mega rare and not cheap.
It will fit the binacle but the foil PCB will not match and np-, no wiring for the rev counter.
Why do you need a rev counter? and what'swrong with a pod mounted one if you do need one
if you want somethign originalish looking, then Slaughter House do one.

Yes, you can, but as mentioned you need the blue foil/ribbon that connects it to the loom to make it an easy swap.
I did it on mine.

Re: Replace analogue clock with tachometer
Thanks Rob and Smiffo, it’s very helpful. I’ve managed to find an original petrol tachometer and now need to get hold of a replacement for the blue foil pcb. I’ll probably buy one of the replacement set ups from Slaughter House, Brickwerks or Campervanculture.

You need to change the ribbon as fuel and temp gauges are in different locations, I could be interested in your old foil
You also need a Rev counter dash pod as the clock adjuster will be in the way

Re: Replace analogue clock with tachometer
I hadn’t given thought to the clock adjuster and am not certain it will interfere as the plane of the tachometer face is the same as the clock. I’ll only know once I offer the tachometer up to the pod.
As preparation I’ve removed the binnacle and clock. It looks as though some work has been done on the instrument cluster.
1) There was no bulb in the brake warning light socket - any idea which specification for the bulb?
2) The plastic mount plate for the temperature gauge was broken and had been glued back together. The middle pin anppears to have been insulated from the foil PCB by packing with blue tack both underneath and on top of the PCB. Does anyone have a circuit diagram for the temperature gauge. I assume the two outer pins are for the gauge itself and the central pin is for the warning LED. The gauge works with normal running temperatures indicated at slightly under 50% max deflection. I suspect the circuit for the warning LED for high temperature or low coolant levels is not working and hence the blue tack.
3) The clock does not work and whilst it’s probably only a question of replacing the capacitor in the circuit it’s not immediately apparent how to dismantle the clock to get access to the circuit board.
4) Two of the instrument panel lights are missing.
Other than this the foil PCB looks to be in good condition. If I do replace the clock then you can have first option on the PCB David.

see this thread, hold off on the purchase.

If you can get me an accurate dimension of the terminals on the back of the rev counter it would complete the puzzel.
