Fuel gauge warning mark. 1.9 petrol

Post by RCN »

Does anyone know when the needle hits the yellow warning mark how many litres are left or how many miles are left until you hit empty? I never let it go below that but I'm curious. Cheers

from memory it's 10 litres at the white mark at the top of the reserve, but you would be advised to check for yourself how far you can get from there to run out on your own vehicle as resistance in the wiring means the gauge can't be totally relied upon after all these years and can be quite different in two theoretically identical vans.
I tested my Syncro many years ago and it was 25-40 miles (depending on driving conditions) between the two white marks either side of the reserve and about 6-8 miles from the empty mark to actually running out of fuel, but the Syncro level sender is much more finickety to calibrate, the tank a funny shape and the wiring more exposed and likely to be a bit crusty so for many of us rarely shows full full when brimmed and drops from the max to half quite quickly compared to half to reserve, but ymmv
GoWesty have a guide to gauge and there may be others
