Odometer Km to miles

Post by Van Rouge »

Hi guys
Can I modify the existing speedo or should I source a clock in miles and set the mileage accordingly?
Many thanks in advance
Kind regards
Nick

Over the years I've seen several places offering overlay kits, Google is your friend, SHC I think so them, but could be wrong.

Another job still on my to do list but my odometer needs fixing before that

Thanks Jim think I am going to go with the CVC backlit gauges option when the MPH/KMH Tacho option is back in stock. However I still will have the odometer recording Kms and I want to change to Mileage if possible

Cheers

An overlay will sort the speedometer, but the odometer will require a different gear ratio. Could the gears perhaps be 3D-printed?

Shown is a 1985 Golf 2 km odometer, which I believe is the same, and the gears that need replacement:

I dont know if they could do conversions, but in 2018, i found a company in West Midlands, 'speedy cables' who quoted me to fix the odometer.  £120.  Would take 4 ~ 6 weeks - but that would still be in km.

I never got around to sending it, mainly due to funds and the time period stated - but also had niggling thought that if they rely on new parts being available to fix it, it would end up a lost cause anyway.  Van is OTR for forseeable future, maybe now is the time - i'll look at that tomorrow  :rofl
